Daily Bible Devotional: Commentary on Job 12
It's not about me
Job 12:10 "In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind"
Today as I was looking at Chapter 1 from Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Driven Life”, something profound jumped out at me: The words “it’s not about me”. Taken at face value, those words today fly in the norm of a society where most people are driven by what THEY can do, what goals THEY have, what material things THEY can amass. And I have to admit that I am also guilty as charged. Most days when my day is not grounded in the word of God, that day does usually become “All about me”.
To help myself remember that my life is not “all about me” I posted some sticky notes on my bathroom mirror and on my headboard to remind me to stop thinking about all the what ifs in my life and instead start thinking of all the “what coulds” that God has in store in for me, if I only put Him first. This is sometimes a hard thing to do in our society, where many of us have a “me first” mentality.
Whaaat? It's not about me?
Are you a giver or a taker?
Going through a rough patch in my marriage (just one of many many in probably a hundred or so “patches” we have had), I also realize that it’s not just about me in our marriage, but also “what about him” (my husband) I would suffice it to say that our greatest downfall in our marriage has been not putting Gods will first, but instead our own agenda.
23 years ago when we said our vows through sickness and health, through riches and poverty, till death do us part, we made a profound commitment to God. At the moment I am not sure our marriage will survive this latest onslaught, but what I am sure of is that if I put God first, He will take care of me, no matter what happens in our marriage.
I am Gods precious child and He has great designs for me. If I put the creator of me first, He will show me my purpose in life. No one knows better than the inventor what the invention is made for, right?
Something to think about: There are "givers" and "takers" in life. What would you consider yourself to be? If you are a taker, what things can you do to start giving back?
Coming soon: My new 365 day devotional
This is just one devotional in a series of 365 devotionals that will one day be a book - both in hard cover and for the Kindle. All the text in this is my own (except of course for the Bible scriptures) I will be using the NIV (New International Version) for most of my reference to scripture. All the photos used will also be my own photography. If you would like to see more of my art and photography you can also visit me at www. dorsidiaz.com where I will also be chronicling this new book, along with my ideas for writing, marketing and creating e-books for aspiring writers.
